INDONESIAN CULINARY CAN BE A POTENTIAL TOURISM ATTRACTION: PHRI

THE INDONESIAN Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) considers that culinary wealth is one of the attractions that has the potential to strengthen tourism in Indonesia.

According to the Secretary General of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Maulana Yusran recently, said when we talk about culinary in strengthening tourism, it is always interesting. Moreover, we have a wide variety of culinary specialties of the archipelago.

Maulana associated the potential of culinary tourism with Lebaran homecoming activities. People who return to their hometowns or travel to other areas during the Lebaran holiday season almost always hunt for specialties in the area.

“There are certain regions that sell specialties from each region in each province. That is also an added value to promote the culinary specialties of each region,” said Maulana.

PHRI considers that there is one most important thing if you want to make culinary wealth a tool for promoting Indonesian tourism, namely patenting these foods. According to Maulana, patents are needed so that other countries do not claim the origin of food that is actually from the country.

Indonesian culinary, according to him, has the potential to become a tool for tourism promotion if you look at the practices that have been carried out by other countries. Thailand, for example, opens many restaurants outside the country so that foreigners also recognize the variety of Thai cuisine.

Indonesia, according to Maulana, still has many tasks if it wants to follow in the footsteps of Thailand, Vietnam and China, which make culinary as a way to promote tourism. Those countries, said Maulana, have restaurants for both the upper middle and lower middle levels.

“So, how to find a way out of the problems that arise when we present Indonesian restaurants in other countries. If this can be done, of course we can only use this as part of a promotional tool to develop tourism in Indonesia,” Maulana concluded. [antaranews/photo special]
