KYOTO TO ABOLISH DAILY BUS PASSES TO REDUCE OVERTOURISM PROBLEM

ONE-DAY passes are one of the options for travelers who want to travel on a budget. Unlike the regular ticket that requires you to spend money when taking the bus, this ticket is more beneficial for travelers because you only need to pay once to go everywhere.

Countries like Japan to Singapore are known to have implemented this system on their public transportation. However, the Sakura State is considering abolishing it to alleviate the problem of overtourism in their tourist spots.

Kyoto is planning to abolish daily bus passes. This is because one of the most popular destinations in Japan is starting to get overcrowded with foreign tourists, especially the places that Kyoto’s public buses pass through.

This is because the daily bus pass allows you to travel to the center of Kyoto easily in an unlimited manner. For this one-day bus pass, tourists only need to pay 700 yen or IDR78,000. This price is cheaper than you have to pay a regular ticket of 230 yen or IDR25,000 for one way.

This bus ticket can also take tourists to explore a number of tourist attractions in Kyoto, before returning to the hotel for the night.

One of the reasons the one-day bus pass is so popular is that it can reach Kyoto’s main attractions. Compared to the subway, tourists can more easily get to the temples that are the main attractions there.

Although it provides many benefits for tourists, unfortunately the unlimited bus pass makes tourists too comfortable which in the process has caused inconvenience to local residents. That’s why the city government announced that it will soon abolish the one-day bus pass in Kyoto. [sources/photo special]
