PEAK VISITS TO SHOPPING CENTERS WILL OCCUR TO 2 WEEKS AHEAD OF EID: APPBI

ESTIMATES that the peak of public visits to shopping centers will occur one to two weeks ahead of Eid al-Fitr. The peak of visits to shopping centers during Ramadan will generally occur one to two weeks ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

According to Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Shopping Center Managers (APPBI), Alphonzus Widjaja, Wednesday (04/05) said the government officially revoked the Restriction of Community Activities (PPKM), which is predicted to make the level of visits to shopping centers during Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr this year can reach 100%.

This year, he continued is the first Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr without restrictions, after the previous three consecutive years were always accompanied by various restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is estimated that the average level of visits to Shopping Centers during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr this year could reach more than 100% compared to before the pandemic, or at least the same as before the pandemic,” he added.

Approaching Eid al-Fitr, people will generally start shopping for items to prepare for Eid. One of the most commonly hunted items is Eid clothes and other non-food & beverage category products.

“As usual, during Ramadan in general, people will shop for goods or products in the Non-Food & Beverage (Non F&B) category and during holidays or Eid al-Fitr, they will switch to the Food & Beverage (F&B) and entertainment categories,” he explained.

During the pandemic, shopping centers did not present special promos and other activities. But this year, Alphonzus explained that shopping centers are now holding various events and activities from entertainment to spirituality.

“After PPKM was revoked some time ago, Shopping Centers have started to hold various events and activities such as entertainment, social, spiritual and various shopping promos including discounts which were previously prohibited for almost three years due to various restrictions imposed by the government,” he concluded.
