THE MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy encourages the Government of West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, to increase disaster preparedness and be more responsive to disaster in light of the flooding in Labuan Bajo some time ago.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno in the weekly press briefing at the Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, Monday (04/10), 2023 said that flooding had occurred on April 4, 2023 due to high intensity rain that fell in the Labuan Bajo area. To overcome this, Tourism Ministry then coordinated with the local government and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
“We continue to coordinate with relevant stakeholders so that mitigation, prevention, and correction measures so that we can overcome the impact of this hydrometeorological disaster. Furthermore, there will be intensive studies and direct interventions,” Sandiaga said.
Sandiaga emphasized that disaster response preparedness is important for the local government, in this case for the West Manggarai Regency Government.
Given, Labuan Bajo is the location of the ASEAN Summit in May 2023. “We as regulators will continue to provide strengthening and increase the resilience and resilience of tourism destinations to potential natural and non-natural disasters,” he said.
On this occasion, Sandiaga said that Tourism Ministry had issued guidelines for disaster-safe tourism destinations and would be socialized as a guide to mitigate the risk of emergency conditions.
