IRIANA INTRODUCED LABUAN BAJO TOURISM TO ASEAN LEADERS’ COMPANIONS

THE FIRST Lady of the Republic of Indonesia Iriana introduced a number of tourist attractions in Labuan Bajo when holding a tea banquet with ASEAN leaders’ companions on the sidelines of the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, Wednesday (5/10).

According to the Press Bureau of the Indonesian President’s Secretariat, the First Lady believes that the assistants to ASEAN leaders can feel the natural beauty of Labuan Bajo, when giving remarks at the event which was held behind closed doors at Puncak Waringin.

“I can feel that all mothers can be happy to see what is in Labuan Bajo,” said Iriana.

Iriana then explained that Labuan Bajo is the gateway to Komodo Island, the habitat of the native Indonesian fauna, the Komodo dragon. The First Lady also explained that the Komodo dragon is a large species of monitor lizard that can weigh up to 160 kilograms and have a body length of up to three meters.

“It’s also very dangerous if you’re close, but if you want you can see later,” said Iriana.

Iriana also introduced the location of the ASEAN leader assistant program, Puncak Waringin, which is used daily as a creative hub for NTT creative economy actors. This place will be developed as a creative hub, a center for culture-based creative economic activities.

Closing her remarks, Iriana hoped that the ASEAN leaders’ assistants could enjoy their time in Labuan Bajo.

She also hopes that the assistant ASEAN leaders can carry out their best role in maintaining relations between ASEAN peoples and the advancement of women in ASEAN.

“While enjoying this in Labuan Bajo, I hope that all of us ladies present will be at the forefront of efforts to strengthen relations between ASEAN peoples, for the advancement of women in ASEAN,” she said.

Previously, when he had just landed at Komodo Airport on Sunday (7/5) afternoon, President Joko Widodo said that the implementation of the 42nd ASEAN Summit was a momentum to promote Labuan Bajo so that it would become increasingly known to the world.
