ARTOTEL SUITES MANGKULUR OPENS ARTSPACE DISPLAYS ARTWORK OF DEDY SUFRIADI

ARTOTEL Suites Mangkuluhur Jakarta officially presents a new facility, a special art exhibition that is the signature of the ARTOTEL brand, namely ARTSPACE, on Friday (5/19), 2023 located on the lobby floor marked by the opening of the first art exhibition in collaboration with Indonesian abstract artist, Dedy Sufriadi.

According to Djulkarnain, General Manager of the Hotel said we really hope that all loyal customers of ARTOTEL Suites Mangkuluhur Jakarta can enjoy and experience the beauty in simplicity through the best artist Dedy Sufriadi.

“Through Dedy Sufriadi’s works of art in the “Tabula Rasa” theme, which are displayed in the 5.6 x 13-meter ARTSPACE room, they can provide added value because they are here to complement the artistic and cultural intuition needs of all our loyal hotel customers,” he said.

Djulkarnain added, aside from being a form of commitment, the presence of the ARTSPACE space is also a form of support for Indonesian artists to be able to express their best artworks at ARTOTEL Suites Mangkulur Jakarta. The exhibition will last for the next 2 months until 31 July 2023.

Meanwhile Dedy Sufriadi said the “Tabula Rasa” exhibition was an important milestone in my career, previously, I had appeared at a Chinese art exhibition at Artemis Art with its first solo exhibition in Asia’s largest art market. Now, still with the same theme, I am displaying some of my latest paintings specifically for exhibition at ARTOTEL Suites Mangkulur.

This solo exhibition is the embodiment of Dedy Sufriadi’s idea of unhindered expression. The exhibition name, “Tabula Rasa” represents John Locke’s philosophy that all humans are born without innate psychological content, taking ideas and defining our own roles as we go through life, making us essentially, organically clean notebooks.

“The concept of Tabula Rasa (Latin for blank paper) inspires my approach to dive into my own work without preconceived notions about what the painting will or should look like,” he explained.

In keeping with this philosophy, Dedy begins his works without any preconceived notions of how they should be, often intuitively employing some subconscious automatism, and simply flowing with his mind, guided by his intuition and 20 years of artistic experience.

Dedy quickly gained recognition for his radical and expressive abstract art style, which is marked by his refusal to be forced into one genre. He famously utilized the amalgamation of naïve figures, symbolism, and textual variations to create a vividly hybridized artistic language.

“I am exhibiting his unique abstract work which expresses his innermost thoughts through a combination of allegory and naïve text. The existence of text and symbology in complex abstract expressionist compositions utilizes layered literary quotations, narratives and symbols to replace what is usually a play of color and line,” he said.

“This work that I produce is an attempt to form my own protest against the current digital era. The digital era has no guarantee that it will make readers more critical, but instead form a line of superficial readers. Text is nothing more than a play medium. Anyone can form a playroom with their own rules of the game. For me, both processes aim to achieve a common goal – that of gaining a deeper understanding, of ourselves and of the world around us,” Dedy concluded.

Dedy Sufriadi is a Bachelor of Fine Art, Indonesian Art Institute (ISI), Yogyakarta (2004) and Master of Fine Art, Indonesian Art Institute (ISI), Yogyakarta (2013). [traveltext.id]
