TIMOR DE BELITONG, APPOINTS 17 SECTOR EAST BELITUNG CREATIVE ECONOMY

IN ORDER to strengthen East Belitung Regency, as an archipelago rich in natural beauty, art, culture and maritime holding the Timor de Belitong event from 1-4 June 2023 at Lapangan Jagor, Kurnia Jaya, Manggar, East Belitung.

According to Khairil Anwar, Deputy Regent of East Belitung, Thursday night (6/01), 2023, when inaugurating the Timor de Belitong event, said that with the theme ‘Art & Creative Fest’, East Belitung Regency is expected to explore 17 creative economic sub-sectors including, fine arts, fashion, culinary, music and performing arts wrapped in local wisdom from coastal marine life.

“Apart from being an effort to bring in foreign tourists and domestic tourist trips, this event is also expected to be able to improve the community’s economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

He explained, this event could also be one of the important efforts in making East Belitung rise and empowered, revive its culture, empower its people. Especially the younger generation to love their own regional art and culture.

Meanwhile, Evi Nardi, Head of the East Belitung Regency Culture and Tourism Office, explained that the Timor de Belitong event was to encourage 17 creative economic sub-sectors rooted in regional potential.

“Apart from that, this event also aims to be a venue for promoting the potential of tourism and the creative economy, increasing student creativity, encouraging the progress and development of local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) products, and making Timor de Belitong an annual event,” said Evi.

She added, based on data from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, in 2021 the creative economy sector will contribute IDR1,191 trillion to the national gross domestic product (GDP).

“The creative economy sector is superior because of its fast growth every year. This sector is also expected to earn large foreign exchange and be able to balance the trade balance. Even though the creative economy sector was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, there are several sectors that have actually grown, including; animation, application and game developers,” Evi remarked.

Also during the pandemic, this sector experienced an increase in e-commerce-based business opportunities in 2021 by 42 percent. These sales came from the fashion, food and other categories.

The Timor de Belitong event apart from being a showcase for the products of 17 creative economy sub-sectors, a music concert was also held which brought together the band The Rain and Happy Asmara. [traveltext.id]
