INDONESIA’S domestic tourism sector will experience a significant increase in 2023. According to the Central Statistics Agency, the number of domestic tourism trips in the first half of 2023 reached 433.57 million, an increase of 12.6% compared to the same period in 2022.
If current trends continue, the domestic market by the end of the year will reach around 827 million trips, up from 734.9 million trips in 2022.
According to the CEO of Strategic Investment Hotels, Ross Woods, five provinces experienced the highest growth as a result of increased travel. All five-show extraordinary growth in domestic tourism travel, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) leading with a jump of 158.8% compared to the same period in 2022.
“Meanwhile, provinces outside the top five show a domestic travel market of more than one percent. West Nusa Tenggara is famous for its pristine beaches, clear water and stunning views, making it a beautiful paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers,” said Ross to Kompas.com, Thursday (8/31), 2023.
The province’s proactive approach to improving tourism infrastructure, including better connectivity and facilities, has made it more accessible and attractive to tourists.
The second position is occupied by East Kalimantan with an increase of 73.7%, this province is fast becoming a favorite destination for local tourists. Blessed with diverse wildlife and dense rainforests, the province offers unique opportunities for ecotourism and wildlife viewing, which appeals to nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
Next is the Riau Islands with an extraordinary growth rate of 63.2%, the islands and tourist attractions in this province have attracted the interest of many adventurers. The collection of beautiful islands in the Riau Islands with white sandy beaches, dynamic marine life and luxury resorts has attracted visitors looking for a tropical vacation.
Fourth, Bali is known for its stunning natural landscapes and dynamic culture, Bali experienced significant growth of 44.8% in domestic tourism, strengthening its position as a must-visit destination. Bali’s unique blend of culture, spirituality and tradition continues to attract tourists seeking relaxation, rejuvenation, and spiritual experiences.
In fifth position, West Kalimantan. The province saw a 38.6% increase in trips, attracting tourists to visit its unique natural wonders.
“The province offers exciting activities such as jungle trekking and river cruises, which cater to adventurous travelers looking for a remote experience,” said Ross.
