‘ALIVE’ SOLO EXHIBITION OF VONNY RATNA’s PRESENTS AT ARTOTEL THAMRIN JAKARTA

ARTOTEL Thamrin Jakarta presents a solo exhibition entitled ‘ALIVE’ by Vonny Ratna Indah which will be held at ARTOTEL ARTSpace from 27 October 2023 to 21 January 2024.

According to Vonny Ratna Indah during a press conference, Friday (10/27), 2023, ALIVE was an art exhibition that raised the theme of women. There are always interesting discussions about this feminist figure. This figure, who is known to have a more sensitive nature, is able to live life with confidence and purpose in his life and can play more roles than a man.

“Now in the modern era, women have equality with men who can do anything, without any restrictions. “However, behind a woman’s success, many people also go through very difficult phases in their lives, but they still struggle to keep living their lives,” he said.

Vonny, as she is affectionately known, is a native woman born in Palembang who has started her career and love of painting since 2003. Graduated from the Jakarta Arts Institute, Vonny has participated in many solo and group exhibitions both at the national and international levels. Vonny has also been a teacher at several universities in Jakarta and manages an Artspace in the Bintaro area.

The work he is showing this time is inspired by the animated film Coraline and there is also an adaptation of the artistic life he has lived for more than 20 years. Many of the stories taken are in the form of unnatural human gestures which symbolize how a woman continues to struggle through traumatic events, stories of drama from life at work, heartbreak, failed dreams and the joy of life.

Vonny explained that the message of this solo exhibition is that “Alive” does not only mean living in joy and happiness, this word contains the spirit of choosing to stay alive as long as you are entrusted with living your life.

Meanwhile, Windi Solomon, ART Director of ARTOTEL Group, added that this exhibition is very special for us, by showing a story about women through doll installations and several paintings on display.

“We hope that this contemporary art exhibition can be enjoyed in a different way but can still provide a message in each work,” he concluded.

Even though it is exhibited in a simple exhibition space, this exhibition can be an alternative ‘fine art tourism’ in the city of Jakarta. The exhibition, which opened on Friday, 27 October 2023, can be visited until the end of January 2024. The exhibition ends and begins the year, and can also be a reflection of the journey for anyone who empathizes with events in the lives of women in Indonesia in particular. [traveltext.id]
