FRENCH ARCHITECTURAL EXPERT INVOLVED IN RESTORATION OF MUSEUM

FRENCH achitectural experts took part in the restoration process of the Indonesian National Museum (MNI) which burned down last month. Architectural experts involved in the restoration of Notre-Dame Cathedral which experienced a similar disaster in 2019.

These experts are working with MNI to assess the structural integrity of the affected museum buildings and ensure the stability of the building structure to prevent further damage.

Acting Head of the Museum and Cultural Heritage Public Services Agency (BLU MCB), Ahmad Mahendra, said that a team of architectural experts delegated by the French Embassy in Indonesia had supported the preparation of short- and long-term plans to support the restoration of the affected MNI buildings. fire disaster.

The team of architectural experts from France supporting the restoration of MNI specializes in the preservation and reconstruction of historical monuments as well as heritage and historic buildings. The two experts are Cédric Trenesaux and Frédéric Martorello, who are experts in historical monuments and special heritage buildings, with extensive experience including dealing with post-fire damage to historic buildings.

The representative of the French Embassy in Indonesia said that the comprehensive report produced by the expert team could be immediately implemented together to stabilize the building in order to protect heritage buildings, collections and workers in the affected area.

“We continue to communicate and discuss intensively with the expert team. Our focus is that the restoration of the National Museum of Indonesia can run smoothly and on time,” he said.

Achmad Mahendra explained that we hope that with support from various experts from within and outside the country we can speed up the recovery process of MNI so that it can be enjoyed again by the Indonesian people and foreign visitors.

“Until the end of October 2023, the total number of artifacts that have been identified has reached 703 artifacts, 694 of these artifacts have been completely classified and are currently undergoing sample testing and analysis at the Borobudur Conservation Center,” he concluded.
