NATIONAL AIRLINES REMINDED TO FOLLOW IATA STANDARDS: BAMBANG

CHAIRMAN of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly, Bambang Soesatyo appreciated the steps taken by airlines to provide clear information regarding the use of smart luggage. So that producers, distributors and consumers are no longer confused.

It is known that Airwheel suitcases meet the specifications and requirements of IATA as the International Air Transport Association. The smart luggage suitcase can enter the cabin because it has a removable lithium battery according to IATA regulations.

“With this explanation, it is hoped that there will be no more confusion among the public. This includes Airwheel suitcases (smart luggage) because they meet the requirements to be put into airline cabins,” he said, Sunday (01/21).

He appealed to other smart luggage manufacturers to commit to marketing their products in accordance with the requirements as stipulated in the provisions regulated by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

At the same time, upholding the safety and security priorities of these products when carried on flights. There are several provisions for smart luggage that can be carried in aircraft cabin baggage. The smart luggage products that can enter the cabin have removable lithium batteries according to IATA regulations.

The dimensions of smart luggage must comply with cabin baggage regulations
For the Airbus A320 the dimensions are L 56 cm x W 36 cm x H 23 cm with a maximum weight of 7-kilograms and for the ATR72-600 aircraft the dimensions are L 41 cm x W 34 cm x H 17 cm with a maximum weight of 7-kilograms.

“Lithium metal content below 100 Wh or 2-grams can enter the aircraft cabin with a maximum of 15 portable electronic devices (PED) or 1 portable medical electronic device (PMED). Lithium metal content more than 100 to 160 Wh can enter the cabin plane,” he remarked.

Bambang Soesatyo continued, lithium metal content of more than 160 Wh must be prepared and transported as cargo in accordance with IATA dangerous goods regulations.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Indonesian KADIN Political, Legal and Security Agency explained, as informed by the Main Director of PT. Rohartindo Nusantara Luas (Airwheel suitcase manufacturer), Ronald Hartono Tan, Airwheel suitcases are safe to carry on air flights.

“Because, the suitcase has international security certificates such as CE, MSDS, ROHS, UN 38.3, IC, CB, IEC. So, the safety of the suitcase, electricity and battery have been recognized through this certificate. As long as they follow the applicable regulations, manufacturers and distributors of various brands of smart luggage do not need to worry about marketing their products in Indonesia. This includes Airwheel luggage which meets the specifications and requirements as regulated in IATA,” he noted.

Bambang Soesatyo also appreciated PT’s plans. Rohartindo Nusantara Luas will open an Airwheel offline store in 2024. So that it can contribute to the movement of the national economy.

“Based on financial reports as of September 2023, sales of Airwheel suitcases shot up 2023.34% year on year (yoy) to IDR49.35 billion from the previous IDR16.27 billion as of September 2022. Plus, sales of household tools and furniture, in total PT Rohartindo Nusantara Luas posted revenue of IDR99.47 billion per quarter III/2023. Up 28.79% yoy from the previous IDR77.24 billion,” concluded Bambang. [sources/photo special]
