CHINESE tourists’ interest in traveling abroad is quite high after the closure of the country’s borders due to the pandemic. Thailand is the country with the most sought-after information for Chinese tourists to visit. Phuket is in first place, followed by Bangkok and Chiang Mai after that.
Since the opening of China’s cross-border travel last year, Airbnb has recorded a significant increase in international travel by Chinese tourists. Around 3.5 million Chinese tourists visited Thailand in 2023, with projected increases, some of which could allow the figure to grow to more than 8 million or double by 2024.
The implementation of visa exemption by the Thai government
Some time ago, the Thai government eliminated entry requirements for tourists from China until February this year. This decision allows Chinese tourists to visit the country for 30 days without a visa.
“Tourism plays an important role in Thailand’s economy, and China has always been one of Thailand’s biggest source markets,” said Nithee Seeprae, deputy governor for marketing communications at the Tourism Authority of Thailand, quoted by englishnews.cpm
China responded with plans to enter into a reciprocal agreement that would remove visa requirements for Thai citizens starting in March. Thai Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, stated that this step was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.
Both are located in Asia
The first thing Chinese tourists look for is familiarity in culinary aspects, customs, and the availability of Chinese translations for brochures and websites. Thailand is also located in Asia and is used to foreign tourists, making this destination attractive for Chinese tourists.
Exotic locations and contemporary destinations
As a country where most of its budget is channeled to tourism, Thailand is trying to improve the quality of its country’s destinations. They emphasize the exotic beauty of their beaches, rely on sunny weather and low pollution levels as promotional material for tourists. Thailand has everything to offer Chinese tourists.
