NUMBER OF SOUTHEAST ASIAN TOURIST VISITS TO AUSTRIA CONTINUES TO GROW

IN 2023, after the successful recovery from COVID-19, there will be 350,000 overnight stays by Southeast Asian tourists in Austria. This number is an increase compared to 452,000 visits from Southeast Asia in 2019.

Last year, there were 111 million overnight visits by international tourists, making Austria one of the most important tourist destinations in the world. Austria’s rich history, cultural diversity, and breathtaking views make it one of the most visited European countries by foreign tourists.

Located in the heart of Europe, this country boasts the magnificent Alps, which cover almost two-thirds of Austria’s territory. Austria also has beautiful rivers and lakes, world-class ski and spa resorts, centuries-old cities, culinary traditions such as the Viennese coffeehouse culture, the famous Salzburg Opera and Music Festival. and romantic Christmas markets.

This year, Austria’s Salzkammergut region was awarded the title of European Capital of Culture 2024. Austria is also preparing to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the release of the Oscar-winning film The Sound of Music, which was filmed in Salzburg, in 2025.

According to Susanne Kraus-Winkler, Secretary of State for Tourism in Austria, said that tourism connects people and maintains ties between Austria and Southeast Asia.

“Austria is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe,” she said. “In the future, we want to attract more Southeast Asian tourists, especially from Indonesia, and welcome them to our country with its rich European history and beautiful nature in the Alps,” he said at the signing of the MOU to promote Austria as a tourist destination for tourists from Indonesia. Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand through various online marketing campaigns and offline activities between Austria Tourism and Traveloka.

The signing of this MoU comes as Austria seeks to welcome more tourists from Southeast Asia this year and in the future. Albert, co-founder of Traveloka, said the transformative power of technology to enhance consumer travel experiences.
