INDONESIA AIMS FOR COMPETITIVE INVESTMENT CLIMATE DESTINATION

MINISTER of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Minister and Head of the National Land Agency, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, said that Indonesia needs to become a favorable and competitive investment destination.

“We want to participate in building a good, healthy, and competitive investment climate. Indonesia must also be a competitive investment destination,” he said on the sidelines of the World Water Forum in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Wednesday (05/220, 2024.

He emphasized that his ministry holds the responsibility of ensuring that land designated for use or prioritization becomes suitable for investment, including infrastructure development.

“For residential and other commercial purposes, we must ensure that the land is clear and ready. We cannot have investors ready while the land remains unclear,” he added.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) previously highlighted the need to improve the domestic investment climate to enhance Indonesia’s global competitiveness. Licensing and land acquisition are among the sectors he aims to address.

In view of this, he urged the investment sector to shift focus from marketing efforts to solving domestic challenges.

Jokowi noted that Indonesia was ranked the 34th most competitive country in the world in a report by the Swiss academic institution, the International Institute for Management Development (IIMD), in 2023.

He stressed that ongoing efforts to improve the nation’s competitiveness ranking require hard work. [antaranews]
