THE DEVELOPMENT of the tourism sector shows a positive trend, including an increase in the number of foreign tourist visits in the January-May 2024 period. This is expected to have a positive impact on economic growth (foreign exchange) and open employment opportunities.
According to Ministry’s Senior Expert Staff, Nia Niscaya, in “The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno” at the Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, Monday (7/08), 2024, said the cumulative number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia from January to May 2024 will reach 5,244,213 visits. This represents a 23.78% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
“In comparison to the previous month, April 2024, the growth of foreign tourists increased by 7.36%, reaching 1,145,499 visits. We are pleased to report that the performance of foreign tourists this year is good. It is essential to maintain this positive trend to ensure continued success. The number of foreign tourists has an impact on foreign exchange, which in turn affects economic growth and employment,” said Nia Niscaya.
She revealed that according to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the five countries with the highest number of visits are Malaysia (17.47%), Australia (11.98%), Singapore (9.69%), China (8.61%), and India (7.08%). The average length of stay is approximately 7.58 nights.
“The increase in the number of foreign tourists is undoubtedly the result of a series of activities carried out by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy in the main foreign tourist markets. These activities were designed to ensure that Indonesian tourism remains top of mind and that Indonesia is the choice of foreign tourists,” Nia remarked.
The increase in the number of foreign tourists is undoubtedly the result of a series of strategic initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy in key international markets. These efforts have been designed to ensure that Indonesia remains a top destination in the minds of foreign tourists and is the preferred choice for their travel plans.
These include the Australian sales mission with BPOLBF, a fam trip for wholesalers in Australia, a fam trip for wholesalers in New Zealand, a fam trip for edutravel in Australia for teachers and lecturers, as well as a mega fam trip and table top innovations for TA/TO in South and Central Asia.
“I believe the objective is to attract foreign tourists, and naturally, events are also created to draw both foreign and domestic tourists,” stated Nia.
In the same period, the number of domestic tourist visits reached 626,668 trips. This figure represents a 17.74% decline compared to April 2024 and a 5.63% increase compared to May 2023.
“Are people beginning to embrace the #DiindonesiaAja” program. It is my hope that this will be the case. There has been a decline in the number of foreign tourists. It is essential to maintain this trend in order to ensure a surplus in exports and the subsequent generation of foreign exchange. It is also crucial to focus on increasing the number of domestic tourists, as they play a pivotal role in driving our economy,” Nia concluded. [traveltext.id]
