MINISTRY COMPLETES 34 DRAFT COMPETENCY-BASED STANDARDS IN 2022-2023

THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has successfully completed 34 draft competency-based standards (SKKNI, KKNI, Occupational Scheme) throughout 2022-2023, which will be used as a reference in the implementation of competency certification in an effort to ensure the development and professionalism of tourism human resources (HR).

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno in “The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno”, which took place in a hybrid manner, Monday (26/8/2024), said that the preparation of 34 draft competency standards throughout 2022-2023 is one of the efforts to accelerate the preparation of competent tourism human resources (HR). The 34 drafts were then also officially designated as SKKNI documents by the Ministry of Manpower.

“We thank the Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziyah, who has been very supportive. And in 2022-2023, there is a record that we have received 34 drafts of SKKNI, KKNI and vocational programs. This is super fast to promote more competent tourism human resources,” said Sandiaga.

In preparing these 34 drafts of competency-based standards, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, through the Directorate of Competency Standardization, received support from the World Bank through the Integrated and Sustainable Tourism Development Program (P3TB) or the Indonesia Tourism Development Project (ITDP).

Meanwhile, the Director of Competency Standardization and Training Program Development of the Ministry of Manpower, Moh. Amir Syarifuddin, appreciated the acceleration of the preparation of draft competency-based standards carried out by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

“The 34 drafts prepared by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is not a small number because the Ministry of Manpower sets an average of 100 SKKNI documents every year. “So if these 34 have been contributed by the Ministry of Tourism, this is an extraordinary (number). SKKNI is very important in efforts to support Indonesia’s human resources, especially in achieving the ideals of Golden Indonesia 2045,” he underlined.

If we do not prepare from now on, he continued, the demographic dividend will be a problem in itself if we do not move together.

Likewise, World Bank Senior Financial Sector Specialist Salman Alibhai said that tourism development is not just about infrastructure and attractions. Investment in human resource development is also important to do.

“What the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has done in terms of investing in human resources, especially around tourist destinations throughout the country, is a very strong illustration of what can be achieved if we make such investments,” Salman affirmed.

He added that the Ministry of Tourism has been able to provide training and digitization support to tens of thousands of MSMEs in the tourism sector. Also, in the Tourism Village Development Program.

“The drafting of this competency standard is an important investment in realizing job creation in the tourism sector. We see many certifications that have been established, such as ecotourism specialist, even to rock climbing guide certification,” he noted.

Furthermore, Deputy for Resources and Institutions of the Ministry of Tourism, Martini Mohamad Paham, said that the preparation of the draft of this competency-based standard is also the result of collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), because the certification site will be carried out in six key tourism areas.

“Why do we need proof (certification), because when a destination develops its infrastructure, then its human resources must also be prepared, there must be proof that the human resources are really ready. One proof is certification and that the required competencies are those that are in line with the needs of the industry,” Martini Paham concluded. [traveltext.id]
