TRANSPORTATION Minister Budi Karya Sumadi stated that the construction development of Nusantara Airport at IKN Nusantara in East Kalimantan was significant.
According to the minister, construction of Nusantara Airport’s runway was still on target, with a length of 1,975 meters as of Sunday (September 8).
“This is still on target. In the near future, it will be completed up to 2,200 meters,” he noted in a statement from his office on Monday. On Sunday , Sumadi reviewed the progress in the construction of Nusantara Airport.
The minister noted that the runway was still 1,025 meters long as of August end. Construction continues to progress rapidly amid the rainy season at the location.
Apart from the runway, some developments have been carried out at the airport, including the VVIP terminal, for which the construction has reached 90.16 percent completion as compared to 82.6 percent in August 2024. Meanwhile, the construction work at the VIP terminal is also 77.06 percent complete.
The minister revealed that for supporting facilities, such as the ATC tower, the progress has reached 53.71 percent, followed by the administration and operational building, at 61.03 percent, and the PKP-PK building, whose construction work is 68.71% complete.
“The main obstacle is still the unpredictable weather conditions, and it has slowed down the work, but everything is still on track,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Sumadi remarked that supporting roads for airport access are above 50% complete, comprising the main access road, with 98.53% readiness, the west perimeter road being 66.96% built, and the east perimeter road being 50.44% completed.
Overall, he noted that the progress in the construction of the airport had reached 74.79 percent, with a construction time of 273 days. He is optimistic about the airport’s completion in accordance with the target set for December 31, 2024.
Earlier, President Joko Widodo waited for Nusantara airport to be up and running first before confirming his relocation to IKN.
The president emphasized that he would not push himself to move to IKN in September if the infrastructure, such as the airport, had not been completed.
The president remarked that moving to IKN is implausible without the readiness of Nusantara Airport to support his working visit to other provinces, such as Papua or NTT. [antaranews]
