MINISTER of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno attended the Plenary Cabinet Meeting directly led by President Joko Widodo at Garuda Palace, the capital of the Archipelago (IKN), East Kalimantan, on Friday (09/13), 2024.
This plenary cabinet meeting included the President’s instruction on the preparation of the government transition and the final reports of the coordinating ministers representing the ministers under their coordination.
Sandiaga, upon arrival at Terminal 1A of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Friday (09/13), 2024, after attending the Plenary Cabinet Meeting (SKP) headed by President Joko Widodo, said that President Jokowi had reminded the ministers in the last Plenary Cabinet Meeting to complete their main work programs immediately.
“I will try to complete the main programs in the tourism sector designed under the leadership of President Joko Widodo until the new government changes. Hopefully, we can answer all the challenges in the last 5 weeks. I recommended a number of excellent programs to be continued in the next government,” he said.
He added that in terms of tourism and creative economy (parekraf), we recommend the continuation of the five super priority destinations program, completed, in terms of infrastructure, all of them are almost over 80 percent, some have even been completed, but there are also aspects of sustainability, sustainability and aspects of improving the quality of human resources. We have seen very promising initial results in Lake Toba, Borobudur, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo and Likupang.
He also continued the Tourism Village Development Program, which is the development of human resources and infrastructure related to tourism and creative economy in the Tourism Village. What will be continued is the tourism village program, this tourism village program touches on 17 points of the sustainable development goals.
“Meanwhile, from the creative economy side, I recommend sustainability for the program to increase value added to increase exports, access to financing for the creative economy that focuses on creating 4.4 jobs, and also improve the welfare of creative economy actors throughout the archipelago,” he affirmed.
He explained that because President-elect Prabowo Subianto carries the concept of sustainability, all programs that have been implemented for 10 years in President Jokowi’s administration will also be continued.
“So, infrastructure development, downstreaming and programs that open up business opportunities and jobs, very popular programs that have touched a lot of people, will be continued and later new programs such as free nutritious meals will be added,” Sandiaga noted.
Furthermore, Sandiaga revealed that President Jokowi has advised that tourism issues should be responded with a positive narrative that is in line with the facts that have been implemented by the government in developing tourism and creative economy.
“And the President’s special direction is to convey to the media, to the public that our tourism has experienced a very significant leap from before the pandemic, 10 years of President Jokowi from a position outside the top 50 to now in the top 20, our tourism position is increasingly qualified, and public participation is very high, and the love for tourism is very high, especially from Gen Z and millennials,” he concluded.
