MINISTRY APPRECIATES CTI’s ROLE IN COUNTRY’s CREATIVE ECONOMY ECOSYSTEM

THE MINISTRY of Creative Economy extends its gratitude to Cita Tenun Indonesia (CTI) for its invaluable contributions to the advancement of the country’s creative economy ecosystem, particularly within the fashion sub-sector, especially woven fabrics. Over the past 16 years, CTI has played a pivotal role in strengthening this ecosystem through the implementation of various programs.

“We commend Cita Tenun Indonesia for its various programs and are eager to collaborate with CTI in strengthening the national creative economy ecosystem,” said Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya during a meeting with the CTI management on Friday, August 11, 2024, at the Sapta Pesona Building in Jakarta.

He explained that President Prabowo Subianto has designated the creative economy as “The New Engine of Growth,” with the expectation that it will make a significant contribution to national economic growth over the next five years.

Minister Teuku stated that the designation of the creative economy as a new engine of national economic growth was based on a number of factors. From a legal/technocratic, academic, empirical, and political standpoint.

“Accordingly, the creative economy and creative industry are referenced over 20 times in the Asta Cita. This leads me to believe that the President has a strong desire to develop the creative economy in the future. “We believe that the direction of the Asta Cita is an effort to prepare the creative economy so that it can become a new engine of growth for the national economy,” Teuku affirmed.

The Ministry of Creative Economy anticipates that the creative economy will account for a greater proportion of the national GDP over the next five years. Currently at 6.70% (in 2023), the ratio is expected to reach 8.37% by 2028. The export value is expected to grow from US$23.90 million in 2023 to US$29.88 million, while the investment value is projected to increase from IDR136.28 trillion in 2023 to IDR183.72 trillion. Additionally, the absorption of labor is anticipated to reach 27.66 million people from 24.92 million people in 2023.

Accordingly, Minister Teuku emphasized the vital role and support of all stakeholders, including CTI, in assisting the government in achieving these goals. He stated that the government cannot address the numerous challenges that stand in the way of achieving the set targets on its own.

The challenges can be classified into the following categories: marketing and capital, IPR and creative economy product, regulatory and institutional, and technology and infrastructure.

“To expedite the development of this supporting infrastructure, collaboration between the government and the private sector is essential. “Over the past 16 years, CTI has made significant contributions, including providing training, marketing, and preserving Indonesian weaving,” Teuku noted.

Meanwhile Aliya Rajasa Yudhoyono, Manager of Cita Tenun Indonesia, explained that Cita Tenun Indonesia is an association of woven fabric enthusiasts with a vision to maintain, improve, preserve, and market the wealth of Indonesian weaving.

“We view weaving as a traditional Indonesian cultural art with significant historical and cultural value. The diverse motifs, colors, types, materials, and threads reflect the nation’s identity. “It is inextricably linked to this woven fabric. It is not just a typical or traditional art form; it is a reflection of our national identity,” said Aliya.

Aliya stated that, for the past 16 years, Cita Tenun Indonesia has consistently run a variety of programs. The first objective is the preservation of these motifs. Based on data collected by CTI 16 years ago, there were many rare woven motifs that were almost extinct. This was due to the lack of weaving craftspeople in various Indonesian regions.

“The challenge was that many young people were reluctant to become weavers, and the work on woven motifs was quite difficult and also difficult to market. We hope to be able to contribute more to the success of government programs, so that the big goal of advancing the creative economy in Indonesia can continue to be achieved,” Aliya concluded.
