THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism has prepared a series of strategies to maximize the movement of domestic and foreign tourists ahead of the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holidays.
According to the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ni Luh Puspa, in the “Coordination Meeting to Discuss Preparations for the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year Holidays”, Saturday (11/23), 2024 revealed that there are five strategies that will be implemented to strengthen tourist movement during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The strategies include the preparation and socialization of the Minister of Tourism’s circular on the implementation of safe, comfortable and enjoyable tourism activities during the Christmas and New Year holidays in 2024 and 2025, in cooperation with relevant stakeholders and local governments throughout Indonesia.
“This circular will be distributed to regional heads, especially the tourism office in 38 provinces, as well as tourism business associations and tourism managers. And after this circular is distributed, we will hold a coordination meeting in early December 2024 to ensure the readiness of all related stakeholders,” Ni Luh said.
As a next step, the Ministry of Tourism will conduct a tour of tourist destinations ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays in 2024 and 2025 in several locations that are expected to be crowded with tourists.
“Currently, we continue to map which destinations need attention, such as beach destinations in Banten, in Jakarta there is Ancol, Taman Safari in Puncak, then in Bali we will see how ready the airport is to ensure that the arrival of tourists can take place safely and comfortably,” she affirmed.
In addition, the Ministry of Tourism is working with partners to create Christmas and New Year promotions and tour packages to attract tourists to vacation in Indonesia.
The amplification of the JAJAN #DiIndonesiaAja (End of Year Travel #DiIndonesiaAja) campaign was also carried out. The campaign will be amplified on various digital platforms such as social media and the Ministry of Tourism’s website, which contains information in the form of promotions, event inspiration, year-end destination recommendations, and also the latest information.
“And in December 2024 to January 2025, there are still events that we hope can increase tourist movement. There are 10 regional events, three national events and four international events,” she added.
During the Christmas and New Year holidays in 2024 and 2025, the economic potential from the movement of domestic tourists is estimated to reach IDR117.3 trillion. With an estimated number of domestic tourists in December 2024 of 78.2 million trips.
Meanwhile, the economic potential from the movement of foreign tourists is projected to reach IDR22.55 billion-IDR29.2 billion. With an optimistic estimate of reaching 1.02 million-1.325 million in December 2024.
Based on the results of a survey by the Ministry of Transportation, the potential for national community movement during Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 is still centered on Java Island with details, namely Central Java 17.1%, D.I. Yogyakarta 15.77%, West Java 11.78%, Jabodetabek 10.34%, and East Java 8.85%. Then followed by North Sumatra 5.7%, Bali 5.55%, West Sumatra 3.26%, Lampung 3.08% and South Sulawesi 2.66%.
The most dominant tourist attractions visited by tourists are coastal areas, lakes, seas with 58.6%, then culinary centers with 54.8%, mountains or hills with 50%, zoos and amusement parks with 33.9%, and tourist villages with 28.4%.
However, the momentum of the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holidays also has challenges such as traffic jams, weather changes, rising prices of goods and services, cleanliness, extortion, and the natural disaster of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in NTT, which is still on alert status.
For this reason, Ni Luh urges all parties to strengthen cooperation between the central government, regional governments and the private sector to ensure that the Christmas and New Year holidays go smoothly.
“And we hope that this moment can be a significant driver of national economic growth, while also strengthening the image of Indonesian tourism in realizing a comfortable, safe and unhindered travel experience in Indonesia,” Ni Luh concluded. [traveltext.id]
