OPTIMISTIC TOURISM PERFORMANCE ACHIEVEMENT IN 2024: TOURISM MINISTER

TOURISM Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana is optimistic that the performance of the tourism sector in 2024 will not only exceed the performance in 2023, but also make a real contribution to President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita mission, especially in creating inclusive economic growth, equitable development, and preserving nature and culture.

“This is in line with the direction of tourism sector development based on President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita, namely to create new sources of economic growth with the principle of development programs that lead to quality and sustainable tourism development,” Widiyanti said in the “End of Year 2024 Press Conference” on Friday (12/20), 2024 at the Soesilo Soedarman Hall, Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta.

She explained that a number of tourism sector performance indicators showed positive growth throughout 2024. Among them, the contribution of tourism to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the first half of 2024 was 4.01%. This figure exceeds last year’s contribution of 3.9%.

Meanwhile, he continued for foreign tourist visits, the Central Statistics Office (BPS) noted that by October 2024 the number of foreign tourists had reached 11.6 million visits and is expected to continue to increase until December 2024. The number of foreign tourist visits is even close to the realization of 2023 of 11.7 million visits.

“For domestic tourists, the number of movements from January to October 2024 reached 839.4 million trips and is expected to increase until the end of the year. This figure is also close to the realization of domestic tourist movements in 2023 of 839.7 million trips,” Widiyanti stated.

Minister Widiyanti added, so we are optimistic that the achievement in 2024 will exceed the achievement in 2023. In 2024, Indonesia’s TTDI ranking has also improved by 10 points from 32nd to 22nd place. Foreign exchange earnings from the tourism sector until the third quarter of 2024 have reached US$12.63 billion. Meanwhile, the number of tourism workers from the first half of the year was 24.5 million people.

Throughout 2024, Indonesian tourism also made a mark of pride by winning 67 awards from 32 world tourism organizations. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy as a ministry also won 7 awards given by a number of ministries/institutions.

Widiyanti on the same occasion also explained the realization of investment achieved by the tourism and creative economy sector, especially for the period from January to September 2024. Namely, US$2.4 billion or equivalent to IDR35.43 trillion, consisting of foreign investment and domestic investment.

“For foreign investment, it is dominated by Singapore, followed by Australia, India, Japan and France. The most popular business sectors include star hotels, restaurants, hotel apartments, bars, and gaming areas,” Widiyanti affirmed.

In 2025, the Ministry of Tourism is mandated to achieve several major goals. Namely, 14.6 to 16 million foreign tourist visits, 1.08 billion domestic tourist movements, 4.6% tourism contribution to GDP, US$19-22.1 billion tourism foreign exchange, and 25.8 million tourism workers.

“These achievements are a motivation for us to continue to provide the best service. The year 2025 is understood as an important momentum to build the foundation of quality tourism, an approach that focuses on sustainability and added value,” concluded Widiyanti. [traveltext.id]
