JAN-NOV 2024 FOREIGN TOURIST ARRIVALS HIGHEST IN FIVE YEARS: BPS

STATISTICS Indonesia (BPS) recorded that from January to November 2024, Indonesia welcomed 12.66 million foreign tourists, marking the highest figure recorded in the past five years.

Deputy of Distribution and Service Statistics at BPS Pudji Ismartini noted in a press conference here on Thursday (01/02), 2025 that the number reflected an increase of 20.7% compared to the same period in 2023.

She highlighted that the number of foreign tourists arriving in November was 1.09 million, representing an 8.58% decrease from the previous month.

After experiencing an upward trend since April 2024, foreign tourist arrivals began to decline from September to November due to the low season.

In terms of visitor demographics, Malaysian tourists led visitor arrivals in November, reaching 174.27 thousand people.

Meanwhile, between January and November 2024, domestic tourist trips reached 920 million, up 22.81% from the same timeframe in 2023.

Java Island remained the most popular destination for domestic travelers in November 2024, attracting 56.32 million visits. Within Java, East Java Province led with 16.33 million visits.

Furthermore, BPS recorded 749,830 outbound tourist trips to other countries in November 2024.

“Outbound tourist trips experienced an increase of 13.74% annually. However, the number is still below the condition before the COVID-19 pandemic,” she remarked.

In November 2024, Malaysia was the main destination of Indonesian outbound tourists, constituting 28.29% of the total, followed by Saudi Arabia, with 16.99%, and Singapore, 13.86%. [antaranews/photo special]
