KEMENEKRAF SHARES IDEAS WITH ARTJOG TO IMPROVE THE ART INDUSTRY VALUES

ART is indeed priceless in material terms, but how can the wheels of the art industry turn if we don’t think about the economic side? That’s how the Ministry of Creative Economy (Kemenekraf) is present so that creative works have economic value for their sustainability.

The discussion took place when the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar met with the ARTJOG team at the Menara Merdeka Building, Jakarta on Friday, (01/17) 2025. ARTJOG’s success was appreciated by Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene.

“We want to learn from the success of ARTJOG, understand the concept and adapt it in other cities, as well as seek opportunities for cooperation to improve the creative economy through art, so that it can improve the destination of Yogyakarta and the creative economy in Indonesia,” said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene.

Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene also shared suggestions to improve the creative economy through exhibitions and sales of art works through licensing standards. Later, artists can receive royalties and increase their income.

“I have an idea to increase the economic value, which is to sell not only the original, but also duplicate artworks with official licenses, so that artists can get royalties, for example 10 % of the selling price, and make artworks more affordable to the public,” said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene, who was accompanied by Deputy for Cultural Creativity and Design of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Yuke Sri Rahayu.

In response, Heri Pemad as the founder of ARTJOG said that the active role of the government is indeed needed to support the art ecosystem in Indonesia. The cooperation between the government and artists is also expected to increase the economic value.

“The active role of the government is needed to support the arts ecosystem in Indonesia to improve infrastructure, expand the market, and strengthen regulations for the creative industry,” Heri Pemad concluded. [traveltext.id]
