NEW ERA, FINALLY PPKGBK OFFICIALLY MANAGES JICC GOVERNMENT ASSET

JAKARTA International Convention Center (JICC), formerly known as Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), located in Block 14 of Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Area, has entered a new chapter in its management. Since 2024, the efforts to secure the assets and all operations of JICC have been fully taken over by the Ministry of State Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia to the Bung Karno Sports Complex Management Center (PPKGBK).

According to the President Director of PPKGBK, Rakhmadi Afif Kusumo in a press conference titled “Breakthrough to Greatness” on Thursday (01/23), 2025 said that through this new management, JICC has several main objectives, namely to increase public trust, strengthen the creative industry and improve the national economy.

“This integrated management aims to improve the quality of public services, strengthen coordination, optimize the use of state assets, and make JICC a new icon for organizing national and international meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) activities in Indonesia,” he said.

Rakhmadi explained that the name change to Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) reflects our commitment to make this convention center a destination of choice for international activities. Along with the name change, JICC has also adopted new, more professional management standards.

“The new standards cover a range of aspects, from governance to facilities and services provided to users. One of the main focuses of the new JICC management is to improve coordination and communication among users,” he said.

He also stated, I appreciate all stakeholders for their full support in realizing GBK’s vision to optimize the use of government assets for the benefit of the general public, especially those in Block 14 of the GBK area.

“We are committed to providing clear and transparent information on all matters related to JICC. This is to make it easier for creative industry players, event organizers, government, state institutions and existing customers to plan and organize events at JICC.

He added, we also express our deepest gratitude to the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Indonesian National Police, for the support and assistance provided during the process of securing this state asset. The support of law enforcement officials is very important for the sustainability and success of the JICC management.

“For this, we hope that Event Organizers (EO) and Wedding Organizers (WO) and so on, who want to hold an event, can contact our team (PPKGBK),” Rakhmadi affirmed.

This is because PPKGBK has taken security measures for Block 14, a step taken as a form of implementation of the provisions of Article 8.1, which was not complied with by PT GSP, namely the handover of the subject of the JCC Building Agreement (BMN Block 14) after the end of the Build Operate Transfer Cooperation Agreement on October 21, 2024.

“Therefore, this socialization activity is a form of transparency and also more productive communication,” Rakhmadi underlined.

However, when he asked about the ongoing legal certainty between the Bung Karno Sports Arena Complex Management Center (PPKGBK) and PT Graha Sidang Pratama (GSP), the investor and manager of the JCC, regarding PPKGBK’s move to close the JCC, Rakhmadi immediately replied that this case is still ongoing because PPKGBK has taken security measures for Block 14, a step taken as a form of implementing the provisions of Art. 1, which has not been complied with by PT GSP, namely the transfer of the subject of the JCC construction agreement (BMN Block 14) after the end of the Build Operate Transfer Cooperation Agreement on October 21, 2024.

However, according to a member of the Indonesian Association of Exhibition Companies (ASPERAPI), this legal uncertainty will destroy the Indonesian MICE industry that has been painstakingly built over decades. It was also emphasized that ASPERAPI will always support the government’s efforts to develop the national MICE industry to contribute more to the economy.

“Many business players have relied on various events at the JCC for decades. Don’t let this ecosystem, which has clearly contributed, be damaged because of unilateral and short-term interests. It would be very unfortunate if that happened,” said one of the members. [traveltext.id]
