NEW HOTEL PRESENCE SUPPORTS YOGYAKARTA’s MICE SECTOR: MINISTER WIDIYANTI

TOURISM Minister, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana believes that the presence of a new hotel can support the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) sector and tourism industry in Yogyakarta.

“This hotel has great potential to support the tourism industry (Yogyakarta), especially in the MICE sector,” said Minister Widiyanti when attending the opening of a hotel in Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta, in a press release received in Jakarta on Saturday.

The presence of a new hotel is considered to support Yogyakarta’s image as a destination for MICE activities both nationally and internationally, in addition to providing more accommodation options for visiting tourists.

Widiyanti said that the accommodation and food service industry is one of the main supporters of the tourism industry. Over the past four years, the accommodation business has continued to grow along with the growth of the national tourism industry.

Data from the Central Statistics Agency shows that there are 31,175 accommodation businesses in Indonesia in 2024, which shows an increase of 7.5% compared to 2023.

Yogyakarta is also one of the provinces with the most accommodation businesses in Indonesia, namely 2,000 businesses and more than 52,200 rooms in 2024.

Yogyakarta is also recorded as the seventh province that is a favorite destination for domestic tourists in 2024, with more than 34.2 million domestic tourist movements recorded to Yogyakarta. This number shows a growth of 23.7% compared to the same period in 2023.

The province also attracted 96,630 foreign tourists who entered through Yogyakarta International Airport in January-November 2024. This figure shows a growth of 2.6% compared to the same period in 2023. [traveltext.id]
