USE EID MOMENTUM TO STRENGTHEN TOLERANCE, BROTHERHOOD: MINISTER

RELIGIOUS Affairs Minister, N Nasaruddin Umar has urged Indonesian Muslims to strengthen the spirit of tolerance and brotherhood in society on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, which will be celebrated simultaneously across the country on Monday (03/31), 2025.

“Hopefully, this Eid will be a means for Muslims in Indonesia to maintain tolerance and togetherness, both in worship and in society,” he said at a press conference on the Isbat (confirmation) session of 1 Shawwal 1446 Hijri in Jakarta on Saturday (03/29), 2025.

The government has set March 31, 2025 as the first day of Eid al-Fitr based on the results of the ministry’s direct observation of the hilal. The date was also agreed upon by the majority of Islamic religious organizations in Indonesia, including Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah.

Following the announcement, Minister Umar encouraged Muslims to perfect their worship during the remaining days of Ramadan.

“Let us purify ourselves and not add any more sins. Hopefully, this will be our best month of Ramadan, which, God willing, will lead us to the gates of heaven,” he said.

On the same occasion, the chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), K.H. Abdullah Jaidi, advised Muslims to transform personal piety into social piety.

The momentum of Eid al-Fitr, he said, must be used as a momentum of togetherness characterized by mutual help, respect and appreciation by religious communities in Indonesia.

“Hopefully, this moment of Eid al-Fitr will be a positive value in our caring movement, society, nation and state,” he concluded. [antaranews]
