BUILDING A CULINARY ECOSYSTEM TO SUPPORT DIPLOMACY ON THE GLOBAL

MINISTER of Culture, Fadli Zon emphasized the development of a domestic culinary ecosystem to support diplomatic efforts on the international stage.

“We need to develop the ecosystem first, because it is related to business. This means that the actors are those who are in the culinary ecosystem,” said Fadli Zon, when met in Central Jakarta, on Monday (04/21), 2025.

According to him, culinary is indeed a cultural product, in developing the ecosystem for diplomacy involves the role of various parties, both government and society, such as entrepreneurs and culinary organizations.

“We want to develop there, what will be the contribution of the government, what will be part of the Indonesian culinary community and so on. Later, I think we will direct it there. So that our culinary can be better known and exist in the world,” he explained.

Fadli Zon added that in the steps to promote Indonesian culinary abroad, it starts from the quality of production itself, such as prioritizing high quality control.

“The artistic achievement of the taste of this food is the taste, the taste must be poetic, you know. So, it has to be very delicious, authentic. And the presentation and appearance must be attractive so that it can invite people to eat and appreciate it,” he affirmed.

He also expressed optimism that Indonesian restaurants will be able to develop in the international arena.

“And I am sure there will be many in the future, maybe our restaurants, both fine dining and fast food, will be able to do that. But this must be a collaboration of all parties, especially the business actors,” he added.

Earlier, Culture Minister Fadli Zon said that the typical Minang cuisine from West Sumatra was worthy of representing Indonesian cuisine on the international stage.

He quoted the statement from a discussion with culinary experts and organizations, including Chef Ragil to William Wongso. According to Fadli, cuisine is part of the cultural identity that is inseparable from the Minang people.

“It’s amazing what the object of cultural promotion (OPK) can do. There are so many OPKs, there are 10, including local culinary and others. Culture is not just art. Art is just one element of culture,” he concluded. [antaranews]
