MINISTER of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsa said that the culinary sub-sector can be a tool for diplomacy to introduce Indonesia’s cultural richness to the world.
“As we know, culinary can be a tool for international diplomacy. The potential is very big, but the challenges are no less big, especially because there is no solid integration from upstream to downstream,” said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya in an official statement in Jakarta, Saturday (05/10), 2025.
While receiving an audience with the Indonesian Culinary Council in Jakarta on Thursday (05/8), Riefky said that many countries have used culinary as a soft power to introduce their culture to the world.
He cited the example of South Korea as a successful example of how its cuisine is able to influence the global community, including Indonesia.
On this occasion, Riefky also welcomed and supported the initiative of the Indonesian Culinary Council to move as a forum that can coordinate across sectors, which promotes research, innovation and protection of Indonesian culinary as a cultural and economic asset.
“I support the Indonesian Culinary Council to work together so that they can coordinate, innovate and standardize the culinary industry. They are the ones who best understand the conditions and challenges in the sector,” he said.
Riefky asked the Indonesian Culinary Council to immediately prepare concrete programs that can work with the Ministry of Creative Economy to develop innovative ideas that are structured in the short, medium and long term.
“Indeed, there are many things that need to be done from upstream to downstream to strengthen the local culinary industry ecosystem. The simple goal of building an understanding of the potential and existing problems can be answered because he understands the main issues in the culinary sector and shows a real work commitment to collaborate,” he concluded.
