THE MINISTRY of Creative Economy (Ekraf) and France are preparing to establish a strategic collaboration in the film industry that includes joint funding, talent exchange, and creative training. These efforts gained momentum during the meeting between Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, French Ambassador to Indonesia Fabien Penone, and representatives from the Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée (CNC) at the Autograph Tower Building in Jakarta on Wednesday, (07/3), 2025.
“As part of our strategic efforts to encourage cross-country partnerships and investment in the creative economy sector, we welcome the opportunity to explore this collaboration,” said the Minister of Creative Economy.
The meeting signifies the two countries’ commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation in the film industry and is a follow-up to the Ministry of Economy’s MoU with the Ministry of Culture of France.
Previously, at the end of May 2025, the Indonesian and French governments discussed concrete steps for implementing the MoU in the creative economy sector.
Minister Teuku Riefky expressed his appreciation for CNC’s and the French Embassy’s interest in deepening cultural and creative relations with Indonesia. International partnerships are important for encouraging growth in the national film industry and opening access to global markets for the nation’s work.
The Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée (CNC) is a public administration institute founded in 1946 and reformed in 2009. Under the authority of the French Ministry of Culture, this institution is responsible for the production and promotion of cinematic and audio-visual arts in France.
This meeting was part of the preparations for the government’s official visit to France in July, which includes attending the Bastille Day celebration, a bilateral meeting with the French Minister of Culture, and a visit to one of Europe’s most renowned film schools.
Fabien Penone also expressed his commitment to building a long-term partnership based on mutual trust and funding, focusing on projects that directly impact creative industry professionals in both countries.
“All cultural institutions will participate in the Bastille Day celebration, so it’s a good opportunity for us to interact with each other. I want this to be a long-term partnership, not just a temporary one,” said Fabien Penone.
Meanwile CNC Managing Director Gaëtan Bruel stressed the importance of cooperation with Indonesia. “The Indonesian Ministry of Creative Economy plays a central role in creating economic value, strengthening cultural identity, and building national power. We believe Indonesia has great potential to become a center of creative forces in Southeast Asia,” he said.
Through this cooperation, the Creative Economy Ministry hopes to create synergy as a tangible manifestation of the Hexahelix approach. The ministry also hopes this cooperation will encourage the development of a globally competitive creative economy ecosystem.
Those who also attended the meeting included the Cultural Advisor and Director of IFI (Indonesian Institute of Français), Jules Irrmann; the IFI Cultural Cooperation Attaché, Charlotte Esnou; the IFI Audiovisual Cooperation Coordination Attaché, Gaspard Perelman; and the Political Advisor of the French Embassy, Martin Albert.
