ISA ART Gallery to announce the latest exhibition, “Conjunction of Drones”, opening on 20th September 2025 at Wisma 46, Jakarta. This showcase features the works of 9 artists who engage with and respond to materials such as thread, hair, plants, skin, and paper—subject matters poised between organic origin and human manipulation.
Fibers, in particular, carry a duality; grown from the earth yet processed through machines. The title, borrowed from Sufjan Stevens’ short instrumental interlude Conjunction of Drones (but no actual drones), sets the tone for the exhibition. Like the fleeting chords of the piece, the works on view echo persistence, rhythm, and repetition.
Here, drones are understood not only as sounds often perceived as intrusive, but also as metaphors for continuity and memory—qualities shared with fiber practices. They mark a space of ambivalence between control and surrender, revealing how ancient practices and contemporary impulses converge through material forms.
Participating artists include A. Sebastianus, Ari Bayuaji, Audya Amalia, Dian Mayang, Jumaadi, Kristoffer Ardeña, Sarita Ibnoe, Widi Pangestu and Samuel Xun. Conjunction of Drones invites the audience to experience how rhythm, repetition, and materiality intertwine, revealing the ways in which fibers and organic matter can carry memory, continuity, and transformation.
Through Conjunction of Drones, ISA Art Gallery invites audiences to reflect on the persistence of memory, rhythm, and material across time. By foregrounding practices rooted in fibers and fragile matter, the exhibition opens space for dialogue on continuity, transformation, and the entanglement of human and natural worlds.
In weaving together diverse artistic voices, it encourages visitors to consider how materials hold stories, and how acts of making can sustain futures of care and resilience. [sources/photo special]
