INDONESIAN Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana launched 483 national occupational schemes across 34 tourism sectors, a collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP).
“This document serves as a strategic guide for the tourism profession in Indonesia in developing clear, structured, and nationally recognized competency standards,” said Minister Widiyanti.
The launch took place as part of a series of activities, “Real Actions for the Revitalization of Vocational Education and Vocational Training (PVPV),” held by the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture recently at the Pakuan Building, Bandung, West Java.
Widiyanti expressed her appreciation to all parties involved in the development of this document, including the National Professional Certification Agency, the scheme developers and verifiers, professional associations, and other stakeholders.
The launch of this national employment scheme follows up on President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to accelerate the improvement of human resource quality through vocational pathways that can create adaptive and productive job and business opportunities. This scheme is expected to bridge industry needs with the quality of the workforce, enabling Indonesia’s tourism workforce to compete nationally and globally.
Widiyanti revealed that by August 2025, the tourism sector will have employed approximately 25.91 million workers, and this figure has the potential to increase as human resource quality improves.
She emphasized that Indonesia possesses significant strengths not only in its natural and cultural wealth but also in its demographic dividend, dominated by the productive age group. Therefore, strengthening the workforce foundation is key to driving sustainable progress in the tourism sector.
To support the development of superior human resources, the Ministry of Tourism manages six Tourism Polytechnics that consistently produce work-ready graduates. Furthermore, various competency-based training and certification programs are being continuously expanded, including tour guide training, language development, and capacity building in various tourism subsectors.
Community empowerment is also a focus through training that includes strengthening managerial skills and implementing sustainable tourism principles. All of these efforts are strengthened by the development and implementation of the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) as a reference for developing training and certification.
With stronger competency standards, the Minister of Tourism believes the tourism sector will produce professionals capable of competing and leading change, both nationally and globally, toward a higher quality of Indonesian tourism.
“This effort is expected to make a real contribution to the advancement of Indonesian tourism while improving the welfare of the community,” she concluded. [traveltext.id]
