NI LUH PUSPA: I URGE ASITA TO STRENGTHEN QUALITY & COMPETITIVE TOURISM

DEPUTY Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa urged all members of the Association of Indonesian Tour and Travel Agencies (ASITA) to strengthen collaboration with the government to promote quality, competitive, and sustainable Indonesian tourism.

“We must support ASITA, we must work together with ASITA. That’s her message to me. Because ASITA is the government’s strategic partner,” said Ni Luh in an official statement confirmed in Jakarta on Friday (May 8, 2026).

Ni Luh Puspa emphasized the importance of ASITA’s role in developing competitive tour packages while optimally utilizing various government incentives to encourage growth in the national tourism sector.

As the oldest travel agency association in Indonesia, ASITA holds a crucial position not only in supporting the promotion and sale of tour packages but also as a partner to the government in providing input and constructive criticism on national tourism policies.

She explained several strategic steps the government is taking to address global challenges, including high airfares that impact tourist mobility.

At the President’s direction, the government has provided several incentives, including 100 percent VAT covered by the government, a 38 percent surcharge, and a 0 percent exemption from import duties on aircraft parts to help reduce flight ticket prices.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Tourism has adjusted its market strategy by shifting its promotional focus to the Asia and Asia Pacific region and strengthening the medium and short haul markets.

This strategic shift is considered in line with global trends, where tourists now tend to choose destinations that are closer, more cost-efficient, and have shorter travel times.

He reminded all tourism businesses, especially travel agencies, to ensure that the tourism products they market come from officially licensed businesses. This step is crucial for maintaining service quality, protecting tourists, and strengthening the credibility of the Indonesian tourism industry.

“And to that end, in 2025, Minister of Tourism Regulation Number 6 of 2025 was issued, which regulates business activity standards, monitoring procedures, and administrative sanctions. This policy is tasked with protecting tourists while also maintaining the credibility of the Indonesian tourism industry,” she concluded.

The Ministry of Tourism also continues to promote the creation of a connected tourism ecosystem between the events, tourism and travel, and hospitality industries, enabling them to grow collaboratively and strengthen each other. [traveltext.id]
