THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism stated that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can make it easier for tourists to plan their travels.
“What are the current trends? What do people like when they click? Which destinations do they like, for example: That’s why they’ll search with the help of AI,” said Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, at a recent press conference in Jakarta.
Made said that today’s tourists prefer flexible and meaningful trips. However, during their travels, it can sometimes be difficult to decide which destinations or activities to try.
With the presence of AI, tourists no longer need to search for vast amounts of information because social media or official government websites can provide the necessary information simply by using keywords.
She gave the example of the tourism ecosystem where AI can remember all forms of tourist behavior based solely on the information searched.
“So, for example, when colleagues are drinking at a hotel or resort, they used to have a butler, but now they’re given an app. He already knows what to eat because he has our track record at hotels A, B, and C. So, in the morning, he (the AI) already knows I like black coffee, so he won’t recommend serving me a cappuccino,” she said.
AI can also advise tourists on which routes to avoid, thereby reducing the potential for overtourism or overcrowding at a destination. Moreover, AI offers a variety of languages, making it more convenient for tourists to access information.
From a government perspective, Made added that AI helps map current trends among tourists, from popular tourist destinations to the most sought-after culinary delights. This will significantly assist the development of tourism destinations in the future.
In response to this issue, the Ministry of Tourism has introduced Meticulous Artificial Intelligence of Indonesia (MaiA), an artificial intelligence system designed to improve the quality of national tourism services through adaptive, intelligent, and tourist-oriented technology.
This platform, accessible through indonesia.travel, is the new face of Indonesia’s digital tourism transformation. MaiA is also aligned with one of the Ministry of Tourism’s key programs, Tourism 5.0, which emphasizes the importance of adopting digitalization to more effectively reach target markets.
“With the support of AI technology, indonesia.travel can transform into a one-stop travel solution website for Indonesia, acting as a smart, personalized, responsive, and practical travel assistant,” Made concluded.
MaiA will accompany tourists at every stage of their journey, from dreaming, planning, booking, experiencing, and sharing. [antaranews]
