DUBAI Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) awarded 237 hotels in the third cycle of the Dubai Sustainable Tourism (DST) Stamp program for their outstanding commitment to sustainability and responsible hospitality practices.
The number of hotels receiving awards this year increased 55 percent compared to the second cycle which recognized 153 hotels, and more than three times as many as the 70 hotels recognized when the program was first launched in 2023.
This growth shows the strong commitment of Dubai’s hospitality sector in supporting sustainable tourism while fulfilling the United Arab Emirates’ international commitment to sustainable development, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In this third cycle, awards are given in three categories: (1). 22 hotels received the Gold Stamp, (2). 92 hotels received the Silver Stamp, (3). 123 hotels received the Bronze Stamp. This award is given to hotels that successfully meet the sustainability standards set by DET.
ESG Based Valuation
The assessment criteria cover Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects, including: (1). Energy efficiency and water use, (2). Waste management, (3). Responsible procurement of goods and services, (4). Employee involvement, (5). Guest education and awareness, (6). Community initiatives, (7). Climate change mitigation action.
The increase in the number of hotels receiving recognition shows that sustainability practices are now increasingly integrated into the day-to-day operations of Dubai’s hospitality industry. The move also supports Dubai’s ambitions in the environmental, economic and tourism sectors. [sources/photo special]
