TOURISM MINISTRY AIMS TO INCREASE AUSTRALIAN TOURIST VISITS TO INDONESIA

THE MINISTRY of Tourism is striving to increase Australian international tourist visits to Indonesia and expand travel to various destinations through the “Go Beyond Ordinary” campaign in Sydney and Melbourne.

“We want to provide a more diverse and high-quality tourism experience so that Australian tourists can explore more destinations in Indonesia, not just Bali and Jakarta,” said the Ministry’s Deputy for Marketing, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, in an official statement confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday (08/15), 2026.

Made stated that Australia is one of Indonesia’s main tourism markets. Australia’s position as a strategic market is supported by its geographical proximity, flight connectivity, and bilateral relations between the two countries.

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Australia will be the second-largest contributor of foreign tourists to Indonesia in 2025 with 1,754,791 visits. By June 2026, Australian foreign tourist visits reached 864,750, an increase of 6.29% compared to the same period the previous year. The Ministry of Tourism is also targeting 2.23 million Australian international tourist visits this year.

To maintain this growing trend, the “Go Beyond Ordinary” campaign will be conducted through a series of sales missions, taking place at Rydges World Square, Sydney, on August 5, 2026, and continuing at the Oaks Melbourne on Market Hotel, Melbourne, on August 6, 2026.

These events will bring together the Indonesian tourism industry and Australian travel industry players to expand tour packages and transaction opportunities to various destinations in Indonesia.

The events will offer quality tourism experiences, ranging from natural, cultural, marine, gastronomic, and wellness tourism. It is hoped that tourists will expand their travel to more important destinations, increasing the economic benefits of tourism for the region.

These efforts are expected to not only increase the number of visits but also extend the length of stay, increase tourist spending, and strengthen Indonesia’s tourism competitiveness.

In these sales missions, the Ministry of Tourism is collaborating with tourism associations, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Sydney and Melbourne, Garuda Indonesia in Sydney and Melbourne, and Melbourne Airport. This collaboration is aimed at directly connecting the Indonesian tourism industry with potential partners in Australia.

“From the results of the meeting, the Wonderful Indonesia Sales Mission for the Australian market in Sydney and Melbourne successfully recorded a potential 3,050 tourist arrivals with potential foreign exchange earnings of US$4.4 million, or approximately IDR78 billion,” Made concluded.
