RI-INDIA CREATIVE TECH CORRIDOR LAUNCHED TO STRENGTHEN COLLABORATION

THE GOVERNMENT of Indonesia (RI) has officially strengthened its position on the global creative economy map with the launch of the Indonesia–India Creative Tech Corridor at Cinepolis, Lippo Mall Nusantara, on Saturday (10/24), 2026.

This strategic initiative—an outcome of the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026 process—aims to integrate Indonesia’s wealth of intellectual property (IP) and creative talent with India’s technological prowess and audio-visual production capabilities.

The launch was attended by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto; the Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya; and the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Jakarta, Bijay Selvaraj. The event also featured the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving Lokanima—based in the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ)—and strategic industry partners from both Indonesia and India.

The collaboration encompasses the development of creative technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), IP creation, and the distribution of audio-visual content to international markets.

Airlangga emphasized that the leap in digital technology and AI presents a pivotal moment for Indonesia to accelerate the growth of a knowledge-based economy. He stressed that the application of AI within the creative sector is projected to generate new, high-value job opportunities rather than replacing human roles.

“AI is not merely a substitute for labor; it is a catalyst for creating new jobs and skills. The creative economy is a knowledge-based industry, now increasingly empowered by advancements in artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, digital twins, and quantum computing.

Sectors such as data centers and semiconductors—which bolster national computing capacity, as seen in the initiatives within the Singhasari SEZ—are poised for rapid global growth,” said Airlangga.

Indonesia’s active involvement in shaping the global AI landscape is further evidenced by its role as a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO), established in Shanghai in July 2026.

Meanwhile Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky stated that the creation of this corridor serves as a concrete implementation of the commitments made during the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026, which was attended by delegates from over 80 countries.

“We want the commitments established during the WCCE to be translated into tangible partnerships that generate meaningful economic opportunities. The Ministry of Creative Economy greatly appreciates the initiative taken by the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to collaborate with Indian partners on AI development, while ensuring the continued involvement of local talent and intellectual property (IP). There is significant potential to further develop various character-based IPs—not only for the domestic market but also for the global stage,” said Teuku Riefky Harsya.

Indonesia’s digital economy sector is projected to reach a value of US$135 billion by 2026, surging to US$366 billion by 2030, supported by more than 235 million internet users. To harness this immense potential, the government has developed a National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap, which focuses on four pillars: digital infrastructure, research and innovation, human resource development, and responsible AI governance.

“Through this collaboration, we aim to bridge Indonesia’s wealth of storytelling and creative talent with India’s technological capabilities and audio-visual production expertise. The Ministry of Creative Economy is prepared to support talent development, industry partnerships, intellectual property protection, and expanded market access, enabling Indonesian creative works to reach international audiences,” Teuku Riefky Harsya affirmed.

Meanwhile, Bijay Selvaraj, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Indonesia, warmly welcomed this synergy. According to him, the strength of Indonesia’s cultural narratives, combined with India’s audiovisual ecosystem and technology, creates a mutually complementary partnership.

“I believe we stand on equal footing. There is much to be learned through collaboration, and significant economic value can be generated,” Bijay Selvaraj added.

As part of this initiative, a ‘Creative Tech Sandbox’ has been established within the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (KEK Singhasari), serving as a testing ground for creators and industry professionals to explore the application of AI and emerging technologies.

Beyond enhancing production efficiency and protecting intellectual property rights, this collaboration also aims to showcase the joint works of both nations at the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2027 in Mumbai, India. [traveltext.id]
