THE GOV’T PREPARES IDR722 BILLION IN AIRLINE TICKET STIMULUS AT THE YEAR END

THE MINISTRY of Transportation said the government is preparing a Government Borne Value Added Tax (PPN-DTP) stimulus worth IDR722 billion for domestic economy class flights during Christmas 2026 and New Year 2027.

According to Director General of Air Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Lukman F Laisa, said that the stimulus policy had received approval through a Minister of Finance Regulation as the basis for implementing the aviation program at the end of the year.

“The VAT-DTP budget is IDR722 billion for the implementation period (ticket purchases) 20 October 2026 to 10 January 2027, and flights from 22 December 2026 to 10 January 2027,” said Lukman in Jakarta, Monday (10/26), 2026.

According to Lukman, the PPPN-DTP stimulus means that taxes on the operation of domestic scheduled economic class commercial air transportation services will be borne by the government.

The stimulus program applies to domestic economy class flights in the travel period from 22 December 2026 to 10 January 2027 in accordance with the provisions set by the government.

Lukman explained that the public could now purchase tickets to take advantage of the stimulus program after implementing regulations were issued by the government through the Ministry of Finance.

“Thank God, the PMK (Minister of Finance Regulation) has been issued. So, you can purchase tickets starting now and for travel tickets from December 22 (2026) to January 10 (2027),” he said.

A budget of IDR722 billion has been prepared by the government to support the implementation of this stimulus while also helping maintain the affordability of air travel costs for the public during a period of increased mobility.

Lukman said this policy was part of the government’s efforts to keep access to air transportation affordable when travel demand increased at the end of the year.

Apart from helping the community, the stimulus is also expected to support smooth national mobility by providing space for people to travel by plane at lower costs.

Overall, the number of air passengers in that period is estimated to reach around 4.72 million people with growth of around two percent compared to the previous period.

“The prediction for 2026 is a total of 4.72 million, while last year it was 4.70 million. That includes domestic and international. So, it is estimated that domestic will increase by 1%, then international will increase by 6%,” he said.

The government hopes that the stimulus provided will be able to provide direct benefits to the community while maintaining the stability of the air transportation sector during the year-end holiday momentum.

The Ministry of Transportation ensures that the implementation of the stimulus will continue to be monitored so that it runs according to regulations and has a positive impact on users of economy class domestic flight services. [antaranews/photo special]
