TOURISM MINISTRY INVITES LOCAL GOV’T TO SAVE TOURISM & CREATIVE ECONOMY

MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy invites local governments to actively participate in efforts to save the tourism industry from the effects of COVID-19.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Wishnutama Kusubandio is also continuing to ensure that local governments make efforts to save the tourism industry and creative economy from the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Wishnutama in Circular Letter 2/2020 on the continued prevention and spread of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) appealed to agencies in charge of the tourism and creative economy sector to consult and report on the progress in implementing and anticipating the effects of COV-19 transmission in the respective jurisdictions. each periodically.

“Reports are submitted to the Chair of the COVID-19 Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling in the regions (Governors/Regents/Mayors) as well as opening mediation and public complaint services or call centers at the regional level,” Wishnutama said.

The circular is also related to the start of the Integrated Crisis Center as a communication and education channel for the community to reduce the impact of COVID-19 for the tourism sector and the creative economy.

Further Wishnutama said, another thing the agency needed to do was hold a socialization of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for good business operations and in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s Health Protocol. The health protocol is delivered through social media, print media, radio, and sending mass messages through whatsapp groups in each region.

It also made efforts to support the sustainability of the industry such as the purchase of catering from hotels and restaurants affected by the lack of tourists to be channeled to families who work from home (WFH), underprivileged families, doctors and nurses in hospitals. Also make efforts to prevent companies/industries from laying off workers, and coordinating with the Department of Manpower.

The offices in charge of tourism and the creative economy are also encouraged to make efforts to be able to provide support and compensation in the form of staples for informal workers directly related to tourist destinations that are closed in their jurisdiction.

Wishnutama invites tourism and creative economy industry, to help each other, in dealing with these difficult conditions. The Integrated Crisis Center will collect information on the tourism industry and creative economy affected by COVID-19 throughout the region and open an online forum to solicit input from industry and stakeholders in the tourism sector as a material for consideration in formulating policies and further steps.
