THE Ministry of Tourism & Creative Economy strengthens the synergy with ministries/institutions in an effort to strengthen the tourism competitiveness index (TTCI).
According to the Deputy for Strategic Policy of the Ministry of Tourism, R Kurleni Ukar in his statement on Tuesday (9/6) said an increase in the tourism competitiveness index was one of the targets in the Ministry of Tourism & Creative Economy wanted to realize. For this reason, the ministry has formed a team that will coordinate intensely with relevant ministries / institutions to ensure Indonesia’s tourism competitiveness index can be increased.
“There are at least 18 ministries/institutions that are strategic partners for the Ministry of Tourism & Creative Economy, related to the pillars of increasing Indonesia’s tourism competitiveness. So, it is important to synergize with these ministries institutions in order to enhance the position of Indonesia’s tourism competitiveness in the global market,” Kurleni Ukar said.
He added that based on data from the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) issued by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2019, out of the 14 pillars that are an assessment of tourism competitiveness, Indonesia has a competitive advantage on 5 pillars namely Price Competitiveness, Prioritization of Travel & Tourism, International Openness, Natural Resources, and Cultural Resources & Business Travel. Meanwhile, Indonesian tourism is faced with the 5 biggest challenges related to the competitiveness of Environmental Sustainability, Health & Hygiene, Tourist Service Infrastructure, Safety & Security, and ICT Readiness.
Kurleni Ukar asserted that Tourism Ministry could not move alone, so it needed good coordination with all parties involved. In the infrastructure pillar, for example, it is certainly related to the role of the Ministry of Transportation as well as the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing.
“I also apreciated the ministries/institutions that provide maximum support. Increased tourism competitiveness index through the TTCI indicator is expected to provide many positive benefits, including to improve the image of Indonesian tourism, provide bargaining value in the aspect of tourism demand and investment,” Kurleni Ukar noted.
He stressed that tourism established as a leading sector is proof of the seriousness of the government to continue to improve all aspects of tourism development in Indonesia that is sustainable both by paying attention to economic aspects, socio-cultural aspects, and environmental aspects.
“With this synergy it is expected that Indonesia’s ranking target in the tourism competitiveness index in 2021 in the order of 36-39 can be realized,” he concluded. [traveltext.id]
