LEXUS, a luxury car brand under Toyota, today launched the latest Lexus IS sedan which is designed to be more sporty and claimed to be more resilient on all road surfaces, including maneuvering.
Since the debut of its first generation in 1999, Lexus IS has been quite popular, with total sales up to now reaching 1.09 million units worldwide.
Developed with the “Lexus Driving Signature” concept, IS has been strengthened and through testing in various places around the world, including the new Shimoyama Toyota Technical Center which opened in 2019.
The new IS design is more aggressive, with a wider and lower body, plus sophisticated safety technology, including a developed version of the Lexus Safety System +.
“We aim to create a new IS Lexus compact sport sedan that provides high-quality driving comfort while offering high-level vehicle control,” Lexus International Chief Engineer Naoki Kobayashi said in an official statement on Tuesday.
In the hybrid version of IS, control of the generation of propulsion in relation to accelerator input has been updated to achieve a sportier driving experience.
The 2.0 liter turbo engine version features an adaptive transmission control that has the ability to evaluate the driving environment and choose the most appropriate gear for each driving situation.
The body strength of the Lexus IS has also been increased, among others on the radiator side, increasing the number of front-side welding points, and the optimal structure from the C-pillar to the sides of the roof.
The effort has also eliminated noise in the cabin, unwanted vibrations, and increased driving comfort, as well as in driving performance improvements, such as in response to steering wheel operations.
Lexus IS comes with new design alloy wheels and 18-inch tires to improve performance during cornering, in addition to the wheel bolts fastening hubs, resulting in handling and braking that gives a good sensation due to increased bond strength and reduced mass.
Active Sound Control on this car increases comfort and quietness while driving in urban areas and can present a powerful engine sound that is suitable when driving aggressively.
The new Lexus IS will soon be available in global markets including North America, Japan, the Middle East, and certain countries in South America, Oceania and Asia. [antaranews/photo special]
