GET READY, HIKING TRAIL TO MOUNT RINJANI, LOMBOK WILL BE OPENED

THE Mount Rinjani National Park Office (BTNGR) immediately opened the Mount Rinjani hiking trail, on the island of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, after approval from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

According to the Head of BTNGR, Dedy Asriady, said we had made various preparations before the opening of the hiking trail, but were still waiting for direction from the ministry. Various preparations have been made, namely the improvement of six hiking tourism routes, namely Sembalun, Timbanuh, Torean, and Propok, in East Lombok Regency. In addition, in Senaru, North Lombok Regency, and Aik Berik hiking trail in Central Lombok Regency.

“The process of repairing the entire hiking trail has been completed since the end of March 2020. Likewise, non-desirable tourist destinations, such as the Brain Kokoq waterfall, Jeruk Manis waterfall, Sebau, and others are ready,” he said.

Dedy added, his party would also discuss the finalization of climbing and non-trail operating standard procedures (SOP) with related parties at the end of June 2020.

BTNGR also continues to coordinate related to the preparation of the opening of the hiking trail with the Provincial Government of NTB, the Government of East Lombok Regency, Central Lombok and North Lombok, as well as the COVID-19 cluster team in the area.

“If everything is final, we will report to KLHK to get permission to open the hiking trail,” he said.

BTNGR has temporarily closed all hiking routes of Mount Rinjani and all non-climbing tourist destinations inside the national park since March 16, 2020.

The closure was based on the circular letter of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and a joint decision of the Governor of NTB, the Regent of East Lombok, the Regent of Central Lombok and North Lombok, after seeing the impact of the widespread spread of COVID-19 which had become a national non-natural disaster.
