FOREIGN TOURIST VISITS TO INDONESIA IN OCTOBER REACHED 158.2 THOUSAND

THE Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that there were 158.2 thousand foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in October 2020, still a drastic decline of 88.25% compared to the number of visits in October 2019. However, when compared to September 2020, this achievement increased by 4.57%.

According to the Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics of BPS, Setianto in his presentation in Jakarta, said that the movement was still sloping until October 2020, namely 158.2 thousand foreign tourists. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are several countries that have experienced easing, but in a number of other countries, they are tightening it so that it has an impact on foreign tourists’ visits.

“This is what causes foreign tourists to think about health problems. So indeed cooperation between us related to always washing hands, wearing masks, and maintaining this distance is a must if we want the economy to move later,” he said.

Thus, cumulative foreign tourist visits to Indonesia during January-October 2020 reached 3.72 million visits or decreased by 72.35% when compared to the number of foreign tourist visits in the same period in 2019 which totaled 13.45 million visits.

“BPS noted that land entrances still dominate foreign tourist visits as much as 99.74 thousand visits (63%), followed by sea entrances as many as 45.69 thousand visits (29 percent) and air entrances as many as 12.76 thousand visits ( 8%). It is still far from normal conditions in 2019,” he noted.

Meanwhile, based on nationality, the most foreign tourists who came to Indonesia came from Timor Leste with 82.81 thousand visits (52.35%), followed by Malaysia with 46.04 thousand visits (29.10 percent), China 6.68 thousand visits (4.22%), United States 3.12 thousand visits (1.97%), and the Netherlands 2.92 thousand visits (1.85%).

BPS also noted that the room occupancy rate for star-classified hotels in October 2020 had increased from the previous month from an average of 32.12 percent to 37.48%. However, from year to year, the ROR for 2019 still decreased by 19.3 points, which was recorded at 56.77%.

“The trend of foreign tourists has not moved much, so the development of room occupancy rate star-class hotels is influenced by domestic tourists,” Setianto concluded. [antaranews/photo special]
