AIRNAV INDONESIA RECORDED 1.2 MILLION AIRCRAFT MOVEMENTS IN 2020

AIRNAV Indonesia managed a total of 1,202,749 aircraft movements throughout 2020. Aircraft movements last year consisted of 568,708 departure movements, 570,896 arrival movements, and 63,145 local movements.

According to the President Director of AirNav Indonesia, M. Pramintohadi Sukarno, in his press release, said that in the first two months of 2020, aircraft movements had increased compared to 2019. However, aircraft movements since March 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic began to spread in Indonesia, down from the previous year.

“On a year to year (yoy) basis, there was a decline of 43%. The most significant decline occurred in April, which fell 66%, May fell 84%, and June fell 72%. He explained that the decline in aircraft movements due to the COVID-19 pandemic was not only experienced in Indonesia, but throughout the world aviation industry. Pramintohadi gave an example, Thailand recorded a decrease of 56% yoy, while in Singapore there was a decrease of 67% yoy.

“The data we collect shows that in accumulation, the Asia-Pacific region has decreased by 47% yoy. Meanwhile, in the Latin American region it has decreased by 55% yoy and in the European region the decline has even reached 56%,” he continued.

He explained, AirNav Indonesia noted that throughout 2020 there was a decrease in aircraft movements for domestic routes by up to 40% compared to 2019. As for the movement of aircraft for international routes, the decline was up to 67%.

Overflying also decreased by 64% yoy. After June 2020, aircraft movements began to recover, albeit slowly. The recovery continues until December 2020, when aircraft movements decline to 34% yoy.

“For 2021, we together with all stakeholders in the aviation industry in this country are optimistic that the aviation industry will continue to recover. We will continue to implement strict health protocols and campaign consistently to foster a positive stimulus in the air transportation sector, particularly in aviation navigation services.
