THE OPERATION OF LOCAL TOURISM MUST STILL APPLY TO HEALTH PROTOCOLS

THE Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, said that the operation of local tourism in their respective agglomeration areas in the midst of a ban on going home must still apply strict and disciplined health protocols.

Sandiaga Uno emphasized that the government does not allow homecoming for the community during the Lebaran 2021 holiday. The ban on going home is enforced to prevent the spread and increase of COVID-19 cases in the country.

Minister Sandiaga during the Weekly Press Briefing at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, Monday (19/4) said that to fill the community’s vacation time when going home is prohibited, local tourism is allowed with strict health protocols. I ask for help from the media crew so that they can convey a message to the public to comply with and respect government regulations regarding the prohibition of going home.

“The media is expected to be able to convey to the wider community that the government’s decision to eliminate homecoming is to be respected and obeyed. Learning from the experiences of last year’s homecoming and Nataru (Christmas and New Year), the number of cases (COVID-19) during the Lebaran homecoming rose 94% and during the Nataru holidays it reached 70%,” Sandiaga Uno said.

Then with regard to local tourism, continued Sandiaga Uno, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy ensured that local tourism must be ready to apply strict and disciplined protocols. He also continues to coordinate with the local government to ensure the proper implementation of restrictions on community activities (PPKM), such as limiting the capacity of tourists to destination operating hours, this is to anticipate the mobility of the community because they do not go home during Lebaran (Eid) 2021.

“We need to anticipate the community when spending time on Lebaran holidays. The final decision is in the domain of the local government and the local COVID-19 Task Force, if there is an increase in the number of COVID-19 in the area, the decision to close tourist destinations is in the hands of the local area,” he affirmed.

In addition, Sandiaga Uno also responded if the plan to implement the Travel Corridor Arrangement (TCA) in Bali in June-July 2021 is still going according to plan. We continue to monitor and evaluate and encourage the acceleration of vaccination in Bali, which is targeted for 2 million Balinese people to have been vaccinated against COVID-19 by mid-2021.

“As directed by the President Jokowi, Bali has received priority for vaccination because Bali is very dependent on the tourism sector. The readiness of this vaccine dose is now more available and now the vaccinator needs to be prepared,” he noted.

Sandiaga explained that the vaccination carried out in Bali is one of the government’s efforts to provide a sense of security and comfort for tourists in their most favorite destinations.

“If vaccination has been carried out, it means there is a sense of security and comfort for tourists. The progress of vaccination will certainly give new enthusiasm for tourism and creative economy players in Bali,” he concluded. [traveltext.id]
