INDONESIA’S Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, fully handed over the opening of tourist destinations during the Lebaran 2021 holiday to each local government by adjusting the conditions of COVID-19 transmission.
“Opening or not (tourist destinations) is the authority of local governments in accordance with the COVID-19 numbers in their respective regions. That is our decision,” Sandiaga said while reviewing vaccinations for tourism actors at the Jogja Expo Center (JEC) Yogyakarta, Monday.
He said that in the provisions of limiting micro community activities (PPKM), there are community activities that are allowed and submitted to local governments.
Regarding tourism activities, according to him, Tourism Ministry provides a number of guidelines to be applied in the regions. If a tourist destination is decided to open, it must be ensured that it meets the health protocol based on CHSE (Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability).
“It is clear that tourist destinations must follow strict and disciplined health protocols,” he noted.
He explained, I also hope that the cases of COVID-19 transmission in the country will not increase sharply as during last year’s Eid homecoming period. Despite various tightening measures such as PSBB, insulation, and prohibition of going home, the cases continued to increase by 94%.
“We do not want to be repeated. Therefore, we have said that homecoming is prohibited. We will monitor the activities in the micro-scale PPKM and monitor closely so that there is no transmission of COVID-19,” Sandiaga concluded. [antaranews]
