MINISTER of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno said I concerned about the number of Indonesians who were infected with COVID-19 after traveling abroad. One of the cases that is currently being highlighted is a celebrity who has tested positive for COVID-19 along with several others after returning from Turkey.
According to Minister Sandiaga when conducting a virtual Weekly Press Briefing, Monday (1/10) at the Balairung, Tourism Ministry, Jakarta said that the government had given firm and clear directions so that people would not travel abroad if it was not urgent, including for travel. However, there are still some people who continue to travel abroad and end up being exposed to COVID-19.
“We are very concerned about (Indonesian tourists) who have been exposed to the Omicron virus. During the period December 2021 to January 8, 2022, confirmed cases of Omicron continue to increase until the latest number is 414 people. Data from the Ministry of Health, of 414 cases, 31 of them are local transmissions,” he stated.

Regarding the possibility of evaluating the list of countries, Sandiaga continued the government would hold a limited meeting to discuss the latest situation regarding the spread of the Omicron variant in the country.
“Today there will be a limited meeting to convey the final position. We continue to urge the public not to go abroad first,” he remarked.
