PRESIDENT Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the construction of the National Capital Nusantara (IKN) was a complicated job that would take a long time. The concept of IKN is a forest city, meaning that it will be left green as it is.
“The construction of the National Capital (IKN) of the Archipelago was a big undertaking. Jokowi said the construction of the Nusantara IKN is expected to be completed over the next 15-20 years. This is a gigantic job, it’s a huge job, so… and it’s also not an easy job, it’s a complicated job. Therefore, it does take a long time,” Jokowi said in a YouTube broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat, Tuesday (3/15).
Jokowi estimates that the construction of the new capital of Nusantara (IKN) can only be completed in the next 15-20 years. I hoped that the head of the authority and the deputy to the relevant authorities and institutions would work well.
“We estimate that it will take between 15 and 20 years for it to be completed and we hope that with the formation of the authority, there will be a head of the authority and a deputy head of the authority who will prepare it later,” he said.
Institutions are also there, he continued that later a more detailed plan, whether it’s an idea and others will also be prepared, so that it will be more visible.
Jokowi then touched on the basic infrastructure at IKN Nusantara. He said the construction of basic infrastructure should start immediately.
“But the most important thing is the basic infrastructure that must be started immediately,” he said.

President Jokowi said IKN Nusantara would be built with the concept of a forest city. Jokowi said he would carry out plant rehabilitation during the development process.
“The concept of the Capital of the Archipelago is a forest city, meaning that it will be left green like this. But this is what is used for this capital city, which is a monoculture industrial plant, whose plants are homogeneous, which are cut every 7 years,” said Jokowi, in his statement, Tuesday (3/15).
He hopes that later a navel nursery will be built that produces 20 million plant seeds per year. The seeds will be planted at IKN as forest rehabilitation.
“We will plant it later for forest rehabilitation at IKN Nusantara so that the plants are not monocultured, the plants are endemic, local plants, which are able to attract animals to enter, attract birds to enter, attract butterflies to enter, so this is what we want. We are rehabilitating both the forest and reclaiming from the existing mining sites. Because a lot of forest has been encroached on by the community and some of them have to be repaired and rehabilitated,” Jokowi remarked.
