THE PREVIOUSLY boom in tourism has given optimism that the target of foreign tourist visits this year will be achieved, it is predicted that the peak of foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia will be in July-August 2022.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno in a Weekly Press Briefing that was monitored virtually, Jakarta, Monday (6/12) said this estimate is considering the number of foreign tourists visiting the country in April 2022 has reached 111,100, an increase of five times or 499 percent compared to April 2021 and an increase of 172 percent when compared to March 2022.

“The recent revival of tourism has given optimism that the target of foreign tourist visits this year will be achieved,” said Sandiaga Uno.

He explained, as is known, his party targets the arrival of foreign tourists to Indonesia in 2022 of 1.8-3.6 million, the movement of domestic tourists is 550 million, and the realization of tourism investment this year is US$2.5 billion.

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is said to continue to coordinate with relevant stakeholders, namely the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, the Ministry of Transportation, and international and national airlines to increase the frequency of flights to Indonesia, especially to Bali.

“The Ministry of Tourism also wants to explore the opening of new routes to a number of areas that require additional flights, such as Wakatobi in Southeast Sulawesi and Belitung in the Bangka Belitung Islands,” he remarked.

He stated that currently airlines are facing several obstacles in opening routes and adding flight schedules due to the limited number of aircraft despite increasing demand. Currently there are 350 aircraft operating out of 550 aircraft, many of which are undergoing maintenance.

“There is an increase in demand for the number of flights and the opening of new routes, so it has to re-calibrate regarding the right method of promoting Indonesian tourism. Among other things, encouraging tourism and creative economy actors, travel agents, and travel agencies to participate in the world’s largest tourism exhibitions. Then, increase cooperation through joint promotion schemes with travel agents and travel agencies in markets where tourists come from,” he added.

He continued, as for programs such as fam trips, organizing webinars, and market updates, we continue to collaborate with Indonesian representatives abroad. [antaranews]
