RI REACHES TARGET OF 1.8 MILLION FOREIGN TOURISTS VISITS IN SEPTEMBER

THE TARGET of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia (RI) has been achieved in early September 2022, which is as many as 1.8 million people. The government still has 3 months to reach the middle and upper threshold of the target for foreign tourist arrivals of 1.8 million to 3.6 million.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno during the “Weekly Press Briefieng at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, Monday (10/17) said that the target achievement of foreign tourist arrivals in August 2022 reached 276%, while the target achievement of foreign tourist arrivals in January-August reached 148% of the lower limit target (1.8 million).

“Currently, it means that the achievement of the target for foreign tourist visits in 2022 has reached 96.1% of the lower limit target (1.8 million) but has only reached 48.1% of the upper limit target (3.6 million),” said Sandiaga.

Sandiaga explained that the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia through the main entrance in August 2022 reached 510.25 thousand visits, a significant increase of 28,727.46% compared to August 2021. When compared to the previous month, the number of foreign tourist visits in August 2022 also increased by 6 ,98%.

“From January to August 2022, the number of foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia through the main entrance reached 1.73 million visits, an increase of 2,028.65% compared to the number of foreign tourist arrivals in the same period in 2021. The order of the highest number of tourists by nationality in the January-August period is Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, India and the United States,” he said.

Furthermore, Sandiaga explained that currently the Indonesian government is focusing on improving quality tourism, with the aim of increasing the length of stay, income, and tourist experience during their visit to Indonesia which will be adjusted to the improvement of amenities, attractions, and the implementation of Cleanliness, Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability (CHSE) in tourist destinations.

In addition, the government continues to intensify promotions and attract quality tourists from various countries in the world in order to increase economic benefits for the people of Indonesia through the tourism sector. Some of the countries targeted for the promotion program are the UK, France, Russia, the Netherlands, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Japan, South Korea, India, and Australia.

The government is also targeting other countries by considering the level of the country’s economy, population income, outbound cycles, ASPA (Average spending per Arrival) which aims to explore and work on the potential of existing market niches.

“We adopted a strategy in working on quality tourism, so we don’t just focus on the arrival numbers but also how the quality is,” Sandiaga remarked.

Meanwhile, the Deputy for Strategic Policy at the Ministry of Tourism, Nia Niscaya, said that according to data from Amadeus released from the Global Distribution System, which took data from online travel agents, conventional travel agents, it showed high intentions from several markets that did not have direct flights. “This gives an indication that this perception of Indonesia is already in the market, so like in America, the search volume data about Indonesia reaches 261 million, so people search for Indonesian destinations, followed by Australia reaching 187 million, England 161 million, Germany 121 million, and the fifth top five is France, this interest has been seen from the market,” Nia said.

On this occasion, Sandiaga also encouraged domestic tourists to take the time off together by planning a trip in Indonesia. The government has set a National Holiday and Joint Leave of 24 days, consisting of 16 National Holidays and 8 days of Joint Leave, which are expected to have a significant impact on the revival of the tourism sector and job creation.

“We invite all elements of society to take advantage of joint leave by planning a trip in Indonesia and planning it well in advance. Healing, refreshing, fixing the feeling without making the bag dry, let alone a headache, come to a tourist village which has recently become a trend among millennial tourists, which is located not far from about 200 km-250 km,” Minister Sandiaga noted.

He also encouraged local governments to prepare events in their regions, destinations, and tourism products.
