SANDIAGA: ATF 2023 TRIGGERS ACCELERATION OF TOURISM RECOVERY IN ASEAN REGION

INDONESIA’S Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno said that the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2023 will trigger the acceleration of tourism recovery in the ASEAN region after the lifting of activity restrictions.

“Because ASEAN is the slowest compared to Europe and America, its recovery is slower,” he said online in a weekly press briefing in Jakarta, Monday (01/30), 2023.

Sandiaga also said that ASEAN’s three main markets, namely Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia, were indeed growing, but did not contribute equally when compared to Europe and the United States.

Through ATF 2023, he continued, as many as 150,308 delegates of the travel exchange exhibition (travex) business to business (b to b) participants and 136 confirmed buyers from 29 countries are expected to have an economic impact of US$100 billion.

The largest international tourism event in the ASEAN region is also expected to contribute to the quantity or number of direct international flights to the country, especially to super-priority tourism destinations.

“There are several agreements maybe later with Qatar, other airlines can go directly to Indonesian destinations including Yogyakarta,” he explained.

Indonesia, which carries out the task as Chair of ASEAN 2023, through this event is also expected to encourage the image of ASEAN as a single/main destination in accordance with the spirit of the G20, namely as an agent of transformation centered on community-based tourism.

“Let’s use it beyond mere ceremonies, but also encourage our spirit of collaboration, we are ready to compete, but there are many opportunities if we collaborate,” he concluded. [traveltext.id]
